GATHERING IN : MUSIC FOR SAMHAIN  2022

A few photos and the schedule (and menu!) from one of our lovely past events....     with Trevellan's brilliant Musicians in Residence: Jane Harwood and Russ Stanley, Facing The Ocean.

"At this time of year, we turn from the lighter half (summer) to the darker half (winter). We exchange sun for fire : we seek shelter and companionship – a time to gather in and reflect.

The landscape opens up, revealing itself as the leaves fall. We begin to see new perspectives.

Over this weekend, we invite you to join us for a three-day series of improvised creative music sessions. We will be using sound to develop our capacity to listen, respond and connect.

It doesn’t matter if you see yourself as a ‘Musician’ or not. Bring an instrument if you play one, but we will provide plenty of lovely things for you to use. Join us for the full series of sessions if you can - please contact Jackie on 07816 639534 for accommodation options on site, self-catering or catered, and to discuss dropping in to one or more of the sessions as a day visitor. The sessions are aimed at adults but families with children are also welcome :)

Each day, we will gather in for a series of workshop activities that will attune us to the key principles of listening, responding and connecting. We will work on our individual responses to place and season and bring this together to play ‘music for Trevellan’.

In addition, we will hold a separate ‘open’ session each day where, in trust and with respect, we will improvise playfully, using voice, percussion, and instruments of our choice."

Russ and Jane are musicians with wide experience of leading workshops with creative, improvised sound. Together they run the community music organisation ‘Count Me In’, and perform as Facing the Ocean, playing original compositions inspired by landscape and memory.
